How it works

Preview a paint color in three steps

  1. 1

Upload a photo of the room

Use a photo in good daylight with the walls you want to change clearly visible. A straight-on view of the wall works best.

  2. 2

    Pick a color

Choose one of 12 named wall colors, or type any color name or hex code. Decoratly repaints the walls in about 30 seconds and leaves the furniture, floor and windows alone.

  3. 3

    Compare, then match real paint

Try a few colors on the same photo. When you have a favorite, the Paint Colors tool reads the main colors in your design and matches each one to real paints from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Farrow & Ball and Behr, with hex codes.

Before you paint

How to choose a wall color you will not regret

Test a real sample, in your light

A screen preview shows the direction, not the exact shade. Paint a large sample patch on the wall and look at it in the morning, afternoon and evening before you commit.

Check the undertone

Whites, grays and beiges lean warm or cool, and the undertone shows up against your floor, furniture and light. Compare candidates side by side, not in isolation.

Mind the direction of light

North-facing rooms often make colors look cooler and darker, while south-facing rooms warm them up. A color can look very different in two rooms of the same house.

Pick the finish deliberately

Matte hides wall imperfections, while satin and eggshell are easier to wipe clean. Kitchens and bathrooms usually want a more washable finish than bedrooms.

Think about flow between rooms

Colors that meet at a doorway or open plan should feel related. Repeating a trim color or one shared tone keeps the house cohesive.

Do not forget ceiling and trim

Ceiling and trim colors change how the walls read. A slightly different white on the trim can make a wall color look cleaner or duller.

Questions

Paint color visualizer: FAQ

Can I see paint colors on my own walls before I paint?

Yes. Upload a photo of your room and Decoratly repaints the walls in the color you choose, in about 30 seconds, leaving the furniture, floor and windows unchanged. Try several colors on the same photo to compare.

Can I use a hex code or a color name?

Yes. Pick one of 12 named colors, or type any color name or hex code.

Does it match real paint brands?

Yes, in Pro. The Paint Colors tool reads the main colors in your design and matches each one to real paints from Benjamin Moore, Sherwin-Williams, Farrow & Ball and Behr, with hex codes. Treat the matches as a starting point and confirm with a physical sample.

How accurate are the colors?

It shows the direction and the mood, not an exact match, because photo lighting and screens change how colors look. Always test a real sample on your wall in your own light before you buy.
